Land First — Building a Foundation for Community Ownership
 

Land First is DCDC’s developing initiative to advance land ownership, affordable housing, and economic opportunity in historically disinvested Chicago communities. The project begins with a belief: residents should have a meaningful stake in the land, homes, and development shaping their neighborhoods.
 

DCDC is exploring land acquisition, community ownership models, and partnerships with developers, lenders, and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). Drawing on community development finance principles, our long-term vision is to connect investment with community priorities and expand access to the resources needed for responsible development.
 

As Land First takes shape, we welcome partners who share our commitment to housing stability, local ownership, and lasting community wealth.
